Step Forward Spotlight: Tenille's Story

When Tenille Farr was 16 weeks pregnant, she was unexpectedly diagnosed with Stage 2 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Her doctors encouraged her to begin chemotherapy immediately, then deliver her baby early (26 weeks) in order to finish her chemo treatments.
Tenille felt very strongly that this was not the right path for her baby. “I knew that many babies had been born safely after being exposed to chemotherapy. But there certainly are risks-- and the spirit confirmed over and over that the Lord had a specific plan for THIS baby. I felt very peaceful that He would show me the right way.”
And He did.
Tenille soon learned about medical cannabis (juicing the raw leaves and consuming the oils) as a possible alternative for treating cancer. Through many miracles, answered prayers, priesthood blessings, counsel from priesthood leaders, and advice from doctors, Tenille was certain this was the path God designed for her.
But because it is not legal to use medical cannabis in Utah, Tenille left her husband and 4 young boys for 12 weeks to be treated legally in other states. She spent time in Colorado and California, where she worked closely with several doctors and scientists on her personalized treatment plan. At Christmastime, she returned home to deliver a full term, healthy baby boy. Shortly after she began chemotherapy treatments and is now cancer free.
She says, “I was never scared of this path, because the spirit was very clear. But I WAS scared of what people would say about me and think of me. I didn’t want to be judged. But His voice was undeniable. I am so eternally grateful for doctors and medicine, because they saved my life. I’m also grateful for the spirit, which guided me how and when to use these resources for my specific situation. I stepped forward by following God’s plan for me, even though it was unconventional and unpopular. I stepped forward because I trust Him above all other voices.”
President Eyring has said, “You show your trust in Him when you listen with the intent to...go and do whatever He asks. If you trust God enough to listen for His message...you will find it. And if you then go and do what He would have you do, your power to trust Him will grow, and in time you will be overwhelmed with gratitude to find that He has come to trust you.”
